The Watermill Theatre produces quality, award-winning work that attracts high calibre artists and creative teams, earning it a reputation as one of the very best producing, regional theatres in the country. The theatre seats 220 people within a stunning converted mill situated in beautiful gardens on the bank of the river Lambourn just outside Newbury in West Berkshire. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful nineteenth century tithe barn.
The Watermill Theatre is a leading force in cultivating the theatre-makers of tomorrow. Its creativity and in-house skills are widely recognised, giving confidence and guidance to those starting out and providing a creative springboard for work on a larger scale.
The theatre mounts an average of twelve new productions each year which include Shakespeare, music theatre, comedy, period and contemporary drama and new writing. Alongside main house productions The Watermill tours work nationally and also produces shows that are taken into the heart of the communities in the surrounding area, performing in village halls and small arts centres. The thriving Outreach Department run a wide range of community activities for all ages and an extensive education programme including taking shows into schools.
